A fairytale castle in the Angus Glens, within easy reach of the coast and the Cairngorms. Perfect for history lovers and those looking for an active family break.

This enchanting castle is steeped in history. On the 30,000-acre Airlie estate, the castle was built in the 18th century to replace an older building, parts of which still remain. It is atmospheric both inside and out, with numerous nooks and crannies to explore. If you're daunted by the prospect of staying somewhere so large, don't be: three hours of housekeeping per day are included in the price, and catering can be arranged. For days out, Carnoustie is 26 miles away, and St Andrews 32 miles away. There are numerous local walks through the Angus Glens, and salmon and trout fishing on the local rivers. The nearest pub and shop are in Kirriemuir, 4 miles away.

Inside, you'll find vaulted ceilings, original features, and several informal and formal social spaces. On the ground floor, there is a light, long playroom with a table tennis table, record player and doors to the garden, and a cosy billiards room with an open fire. The large kitchen has a four-oven Aga, a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave and a large breakfast table. There is a separate utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer. On the first floor is a drawing room with comfortable sofas and an open fire. The formal dining room seats up to 12 and also has an open fire. And the library, lined with vintage books, is set up with sofas and another open fire. There are seven bedrooms spread over the second and third floors. They include a master bedroom with a four-poster bed and an en-suite bathroom and two more double bedrooms, one with a wrought iron bath. There are two single bedrooms and two triples, both with three single beds. There are family bathrooms on both the second and third floors. There is also a separate cottage with two twin bedrooms and a bathroom.

Outside, there is a large walled garden with a terrace, large lawn, formal hedges, garden furniture and a BBQ. There is also a tennis court, children's play area, croquet lawn and football goal. There is ample parking.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Please note there is a refundable £1,000 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.
