Ideally placed for adventuring and exploring the Highlands. Lovely woodland walks, wildlife and people. I have visited the Highlands on three separate occasions and can not fault it as a holiday destination. Don't forget the whisky trails, Loch Ness, Culloden battle site and Balmoral to name but a few. Overall the cottage is or could be lovely, just needs a few things doing, like replacing light bulbs/fluorescent tubes when they dont work. Overall cleanliness was OK. Could do with few more items in kitchen, like a jug, but couldnt see point in kitchen scales. Drive to cottage needs a turning point at top. A return visit to Birchfield after many holidays there between 2000 & 2010. Gardens a little overgrown but new owners admitted to not being gardeners and weather didnt help, rained almost every day but thats Scotland for you. Will no doubt be returning in the future

The freezer was in basement which was quite grotty and freezer was not very clean. There was no washing machine which you would need if there for more than week.

A delightful cottage in a quiet and secluded setting, but still just 15 minutes walk to town. We enjoyed coffee in the courtyard and also used the kitchen to cook locally sourced meals. Plenty of shops in nearby Aviemore, but without the crowds. We also enjoyed visiting Castle Roy just north of town, and found this location to be a perfect jump-offRead more to trips to neighboring towns, paddling the Spey, the Scottish Highland Games, and a cool trip to the Torridon (a few hours drive).
