This is a fantastic part of Scotland to visit with a range of activities to suit everyone, from strolls along the pristine beaches, and challenges on championship golf courses, to distillery tours. History lovers can discover Brodie Castle (8 miles), Cawdor Castle (18 miles), and the historic battlefield of Culloden, site of the last Jacobite uprising (26 miles).

Wildlife enthusiasts must visit Findhorn Bay (5 miles) where you can stroll over dunes at low tide and see seals and other marine life.

Go shopping in the market town of Forres (4 miles) which has a choice of pubs, eateries, and shops to browse, a town museum, and a view of Nelson's Tower which stands in a commanding position over the town on Cluny Hill. Hop aboard a train at Forres station for a journey to the Kyle of Lochalsh, the gateway to Skye. Go shopping in Elgin (9 miles) where there's also a distillery.

Sporting fun can also be enjoyed by your entourage; try wild brown trout fishing on picturesque glassy lochs, or clay pigeon shooting to bring out the competitive spirit. If your guests are flying in to join a family gathering, then Inverness airport is in reach (24 miles).

Burgie House is a wonderful place in a beautiful, secluded setting. It's a comfortable, well-kept family home which you won't want to leave. We flew to Inverness, from which it's a very easy drive. We came for a family gathering and made use of Mhari, one of the recommended cooks (excellent) and Rory, one of the recommended musicians, whose band (aRead morelso excellent) provided entertainment in the ceilidth room. Morayshire does not have the dramatic scenery of the Highlands, but it has very pleasant countryside. A visit to Findhorn is a must. Walk over the dunes at low tide to see the seals. It's a beautiful place - we kept going back. Nelson's Tower on Cluny Hill in Forres is a surprisingly worthwhile visit, as is the small and lovingly-curated Falconer Museum in Tollbooth St. We had a fantastic time. Hide
