This lovely period property located in the charming crofting village of Culkein, offers peace and tranquillity to those wishing to really get away from it all. Perfect base to explore an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Located in the charming crofting village of Culkein, just 1 mile from Drumbeg and 12 miles to the picturesque town of Lochinver. Ideal location for anyone seeking peaceful and artistic inspiration when painting or writing. There are numerous spectacular beaches along this wonderful coastline, making a perfect seaside holiday base, as well as something of a birdwatcher's paradise, with the famous puffin colony and bird sanctuary on Handa Island, not for away. For hill walkers, Munro baggers and climbers, you couldn't be better placed for exploring Quinag, Suilven, Canisp, Ben More Assynt, Benn Stack, Arkle and Foinaven. Boundless opportunities for fly fishing, fishing permits are available locally.

The property is accessed approx. 70 metres down a hill from the parking area. Immediately on approach to the cottage you will be blown away with the spectacular sea and island views. Step inside to the porch area where you can leave your outdoor clothing. From the hallway leads to the comfortable lounge with stunning views where you can relax after a day out exploring in front of the cosy multi fuel stove to watch TV or a DVD. Leading from the lounge is the well-equipped kitchen with electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer and microwave. Just off the kitchen via the rear hallway is the bathroom with shower over bath and WC. Heading back to the front hallway there is a spacious dining room with table and seating to enjoy your meals overlooking the spectacular bay. When the day is done, head up the stairs to the bedrooms, one tastefully decorated double with sea views and one twin zip-and-link (that can be made into a super-king-size on request). Both bedrooms have a TV and a USB charging point.

This wonderful coastal location puts you in close proximity to plenty of charming beaches, and arguably the most beautiful of these is 5 miles away at Clashnessie Bay. This sandy beach boasts a mild microclimate and is a great spot for visitors of all ages to enjoy. Go for a swim or wander up the stunning 15-meter Clashnessie Falls (5.5 miles).

Enjoy a memorable day out with a trip to the famous Handa Island, accessible 22 miles by car and a short ferry ride. The varied wildlife on the island includes red deer, otters, seals, dolphins and sometimes even whales, but the area is also famous for its large community of puffins.

The area is abundant in varied walks and hikes, including the stunning three Corbetts in Quinag, accessible around 19 miles away. Take on one of these peaks or tackle all three, enjoying remarkable views on each one. Alternatively, if you prefer fishing, the area is awash with inland lochs for fly fishing or coastal spots for sea fishing. Come home with salmon or brown trout and enjoy fresh local produce from the comfort of your home.

Enjoy a trip to the local village of Lochinver, 15 miles south of the cottage. This cute fishing port boasts a large fish market for enjoying a fresh catch and a popular local stoneware store for grabbing a souvenir to take home with you. Stay and enjoy a meal at the local lodge or sample the village's superb seafood restaurant.

This was our second visit to the cottage and we were not disappointed, everything needed was on site, clean and in good working order. A lovely bottle of wine and milk in the fridge in arrival is a lovely bonus, quiet and peaceful with a stunning view.

Very windy & very noisy upstairs we had to sleep downstairs for 2 nights. Very cold in house took over 24hrs to get some warmth. Freezing in the bathroom, but then its early March in the highlands of Scotland so we did think it would be cold. We left a day early due to awful weather. We had a fantastic New Year break at this cottage, in a remote location it is the perfect get away. The cottage has all the facilities you need to have a relaxing holiday and with amazing senery and always something to look at out of the windows. In the evenings we saw deer at the top of the garden and enjoyed lots of lovely walks around Drumbeg.

We stayed in October so took a chance with the weather which changed every 5 minutes! The location is stunning and being able to wake up in bed and see the sea was fantastic. The cottage is so well equipped it was like a home from home; without the pressures of modern life but with TV and wi fi if you want it. Fabulous location, saw deer most days. Access very steep but forewarned so prepared for it. Useful local shop at Drumbeg. Interesting roads around and about, couldn't hurry if you wanted to. A wonderful base for a relaxing break, the cottage has all you need, furnished beautifully.

The Drumbeg area is only for people who like getting away from it all (like us). The cottage is perfectly located with stunning views, albeit with two similar interesting 10 mile drives via narrow roads from the main roads; the pub come hotel is also near (but check times and the need to book for all meals); there is also a shop with reasonable stoRead morecking. Path from parking area down to gate is VERY steep and dangerous especially when wet. Steps should be considered, but this should be made clear in the cottage details. The welcome pack consisted of a cheap bottle of white wine and a small carton of milk, already opened and therefore not to be trusted.
