This luxurious property is ideal for nature-lovers aching to unwind. Embraced by the wild Yorkshire moors, it is only moments away from heather-clad hills, ancient woodlands, meandering rivers and glittering lakes.

Stepping out the front door, a plethora of walks are available for two and four-legged guests to enjoy. The fantastic Blakey Ridge is 8 miles away and rewards ramblers with spectacular views, and 28 miles away you can breathe in the salty, sea air at Scarborough. Less than 10 miles, both Helmsley and Pickering offer a number of cafes and shops to peruse at your leisure. For an evening of fine wine and tantalising food, stroll the few hundred yards to the Royal Oak, a 17th century inn.

Laid out across one level, this delightful bolthole oozes peace and tranquillity. With flagstone flooring and lots of light, the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner has both a spacious yet inviting feel. Kitted out with a toasty wood burner and snuggly throws, many a relaxed morning and cosy evening can be spent in the lounge. Thumb through one of the magazines or find your favourite book on the shelves, a varied selection of reading materials is provided, best enjoyed with buttery biscuits and a hot cup of Yorkshire tea. If you fancy losing yourselves in a film, there is a TV and DVD in the lounge too. Backing the lounge, the kitchen/diner is a welcoming space for cooking and meals shared over a bottle of wine. The kitchen comes with a useful dishwasher, fridge/freezer and microwave. Further in the property, there is a large master bedroom with a super-king-size bed. This generously-sized bedroom is effortlessly stylish, with French-style shutters and gorgeous views over the patio and countryside beyond. The large bathroom has underfloor heating, a free-standing bath and walk-in shower.

Featuring a pretty gated patio and small garden, the property enjoys breathtaking panoramas of the paddock and North York Moors beyond. For lunches in the sun and balmy evenings, there is outside seating and a BBQ. A shared laundry room with a washing machine and dryer is also available for use.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

  • 1 bedroom: super-king-size bed

Enjoying an enviable situation sat comfortably at the edge of Gillamoor, an attractive North York Moors village, this is a superb choice for a cosy break away from it all. Close to the pretty town of Kirkbymoorside (2.5 miles) and then on to vibrant and attractive Yorkshire market towns like Pickering (10 miles) and Helmsley (8 miles); both of which have an abundance of good restaurants, tea-rooms and independent shops.

Beyond the village lies the North York Moors. A landscape like no other, it's a place of gentle rolling hills of heather, ancient woodlands and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. If you want to get away from it all take a trip to the top of the high central moorlands. The famous Blakey Ridge affords some of the best views in the country in our opinion, and is just a few minutes' drive from the cottage. And if walking is your thing, you are surrounded on all sides by some truly stunning routes.

Cedar Cottage (Gales House Farm) was ideal for what we needed, peace, comfort, relaxation and dog friendly. The location was fantastic, no busy roads, very few tourists, small friendly village with a pub (The Royal Oak) that sold excellent food. The owners of the cottage, Georgina and Steve, have worked very hard to design the cottage for comfort, Read morecleanliness and they were on hand every day should they be needed for anything. We couldn't have asked for anything better. Thank you. Hide
