Property code: DC036

Enjoying a fantastic position in the heart of Dorset, this beautiful 15th-century converted granary offers fantastic rural views and makes a wonderful base for a family exploring this idyllic area.

The pretty village of Upwey is ideally situated between the thriving market town of Dorchester (5 miles north) and the popular seaside town of Weymouth (5 miles south). Nearby attractions include Maiden Castle (6 miles) and Thomas Hardy’s birthplace at Higher Bockhampton (8.5 miles) and Hardy’s home, Max Gate (6 miles). Heading to the coast you can explore Lulworth Cove (16 miles), Chesil Beach (6 miles) and the Isle of Portland (11 miles). To the west is Abbotsbury (5.5 miles), a charming village which is home to a swannery, subtropical gardens and a ruined abbey, or you could explore heritage sites including the Nine Stones (6 miles), Littlebredy Walled Gardens (7 miles) and the Winterbourne Poor Lot Barrows (7.5 miles).

Five steps lead up into this light and pretty granary conversion. On entering, you will find a pleasant lounge with exposed beams and a wood burner set in a beamed inglenook fireplace. There’s plenty of seating and SkyTV with DVD. The kitchen/diner has a lovely dining room ideal for sharing a family meal. The kitchen is equipped with an oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. There is also a shower room with WC on the ground floor, plus an additional separate WC. Going upstairs you will find four comfortable bedrooms, all with exposed beams. There’s a double room with a 6’ bed which can be made up as a twin room on request; this room also features a vaulted ceiling and a wood burner in a beamed fireplace. There are two further double rooms and a twin room. The bathroom is complete with a shower over the bath and a WC.

Going outside you can enjoy an al fresco meal, a morning coffee or a BBQ on the raised terrace. Four steps lead down to the south-facing garden which is mainly laid to lawn and surrounded by shrubs and trees. Across from the house is an additional building which you can relax in and which makes a great playroom for children. Accessed via four steps, it features a triple-aspect room with a vaulted ceiling, French doors leading to a balcony, SkyTV, seating and a WC. Parking is available for one car in the garage and for two more cars on the gravel drive.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Please note there is a refundable £150 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

A really well equipped and comfortable property in a good location. The sunny studio is a real bonus. Weymouth and Chesil beach both nearby and lovely. Rule of 6 meant 2 of our planned party had to decamp to a great site in nearby Nottington.. that worked out ok.

We had a lovely stay here. The cottage was a great size and had all the facilities we needed. We felt very welcome and the owners are lovely. Great location too - quiet village but close enough to Weymouth etc. We loved the little cafe in the village for breakfast/lunch. We would definitely come again.

The property itself was very well-equipped and there was a lovely hamper of goodies waiting upon our arrival. It was clean, tidy and of ample size for our party of eight (plus dog!). Beautiful property, ideal place to stay for our annual family gathering. It catered for all three generations and was equipt to a high standard, with everything you could possibly need. Also compliments to the cleaners as it was spotlessly clean. We would definitely stay there again.
