  • Ideal location in a seaside village which lies in the heart of the Jurassic Coast's fossil hunting country
  • Great destination for walking with many scenic routes inland and along the South West Coast Path
  • Enjoy sea glimpses from the spacious, private garden while dining al fresco on a summery evening
Property code: DC057

Affording sea glimpses from the garden and walking distance from Charmouth Beach, this charming character cottage invites guests to explore Dorset’s natural gems and enjoy a homely base.

With great access to Dorset’s country and coast, visit one of the year-round dog-friendly beaches like Monmouth Beach (3.5 miles) or Church Cliff Beach (2.5 miles). Come rain or shine, the opportunity for salt and vinegar-soaked fish and chips overlooking the sea should not be missed, followed by an ice cream if you’ve still got room. To make you sure you are well-stocked throughout your stay the village shop is only 300 yards away, whilst the dog-friendly village pub is 50 yards away and offers a warm fire in winter and beer garden in summer.

Whether you are holidaying with children or catching up with friends, this property has space and occasion for all generations, two-legged and four. Spread over three floors, the downstairs is home to the main living areas. For lazy mornings with a cup of tea and relaxed evenings with a glass of vino, park up in the living room and bury yourself in one of the comfortable seats. Providing ample entertainment in the form of books and a TV with streaming software and Wi-Fi, evenings in are taken care of. When stomachs begin to growl, make way for the well-provisioned kitchen. With one end home to all sorts of mod cons and appliances like a dishwasher and oven, the far end is accessed via a step up and has a washing machine and microwave. When you are ready to gather around and share plates, the dining room features a family-sized dining table and chairs. With the original uneven flagstone floor, wood burner and generous supply of logs, this room is particularly atmospheric in winter and ideal for dinner parties at home. When you are ready to explore the first floor, a steep staircase with rope handrail takes you to the first floor WC and then, via a couple more steps, the two double bedrooms and family bathroom. Continuing the traditional themes, each first-floor bedroom has a feature Victorian fireplace and showcases authentic quirks. Following another steep, winding staircase with rope handrail, you will pop out onto the second floor. In an open-plan design, the roof space has been cleverly repurposed to fit the master bedroom. A light-filled room, this bedroom has a 6ft double bed and benefits from crisp, clean tones, sea views and an en-suite.

With plenty to do inside and out, the cottage has an enclosed rear courtyard accessed via a step with potted plants, log store with freezer and seating area with chiminea – ideal for evenings of socialising. As well as this courtyard, a further garden lawn with sea glimpses, decked area and summer house is set apart from the house on the far side of the parking area, parking is suitable for small/medium sized cars.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Lovely Character house, very clean and spacious. Great bathrooms and comfy beds. Kitchen fully equipped. Beware of the arch entrance as very narrow. It was a tight fit for our car so we parked on the road.

Lovely cottage in a good location to explore Dorset or even venture into Devon. The George was nice to eat at and very reasonable. The chippy, although a tad pricy and busy, was nice. Beds are comfy. A well equipped house with lovely views from the top of the village high street. Not far to the unspoilt beach, village shops and pubs. The enclosed and private garden's ideal for relaxation after a coastal walk.

Lovely cottage, but parking was very difficult; through a narrow archway then opposite another property so had to shuffle backwards and forwards to get out. Did not park there as too worried about scraping the car. Just stated not suitable for 4x4's but anything larger than fiesta would be difficult to park. Parked on the main road so not a problemRead more. Very warm and cosy with efficient heating (working fireplaces as well but too warm to use). Useful having a separate toilet to the main bathroom. Traffic noise from The Street from about 7am in the front bedroom, due to single glazed sash windows. Back bedroom very quiet. Fantastic garden fully enclosed for the dog, and property very dog friendly, i. e. no white carpets. Fully equiped with everything you could possibly want, from games and toys, to T.V packages and cooking equipment. Hide
