The surrounding region of Perthshire is made for sporty guests and you'll find a wonderful selection of activities to try here, including fishing, golf, extreme sports, cycling, walking and hill-top hikes. Non-sporty guests can also have fun with food tastings, Scottish castle trips, and shopping in local market towns and villages.

Step inside to find wonderful ambient hues and every creature comfort to hand in this contemporary country-style lodge. There is wonderful attention to detail - the owners have thought of simply everything so that you don't have to. Guests are greeted with the natural scent of pine, while the open-plan kitchen, dining and living room area with its toasty wood burner and stylish furnishings induce instant relaxation. There's also a bunk bedroom and a family bathroom on the ground floor, while upstairs you'll find a king-size bedroom with an en-suite and secluded covered balcony, plus a twin bedroom. All of the bedrooms are very inviting with elegant crisp white linens and beautiful furnishings.

Head into Stanley itself to enjoy a spot of community life. Less than a mile away there are local pubs and eateries to sample, shops to browse, and lovely sights along the way. For history buffs or those wishing to get a little Scottish education, there's the Stanley Mills, a historic relic of the industrial era's effect on rural Scotland with an illuminating visitor experience that recreates the conditions of the time.

Or, for more cosmopolitan life, the vibrant cities of Perth and Edinburgh are very reasonable and scenic drives away, 7 miles and 50 miles respectively. If you're around for festival season, dip in to Edinburgh's celebratory streets to see this historic place from a new angle, or enjoy a ghost tour to get a taste of the city's spookier life. Along the way, you'll also cross the Queensferry Bridge over the Firth of Forth, an atmospheric body of water with a fascinating stretch of coastline to explore for its beaches and wildlife habitats.

The log cabin provided six of us, four adults, one teenager and a senior, with the perfect week in Scotland. The location of the cabin is ideal, overlooking the River Tay within easy reach of Perth, Edinburgh, Pitlochry and Dunkeld. The area is beautiful with the river easily accessible by walking in either direction from the driveway. The cabin isRead more well furnished and the kitchen has plenty of bakeware and utensils to allow cooking. The bed linen and towels are of excellent quality. The hot tub on the deck overlooking the river was lovely although we could be seen in swimwear and woolly hats when we stayed as the wind was a little chilly. The wood burner made for cosy evenings. Hazel and Jim were very welcoming and helpful. I particularly liked the fact that the logs for the wood burner and all the electricity is included. Some favourite places were The Boating Station cafe at Pitlochry, good lunches and great cakes. We hired mountain bikes from here and kayaks, pedaloes, rowing boats and fishing equipment are also available. Picturesque waterfalls on the 6.5 kilometre Braan walk from the Hermitage at Dunkeld. The taste of Perthshire shop, cafe and highland cows at Bankfoot was a hit with everyone as was the Stewart Tower Ice cream farm. All in all a great time was had by all. Hide
