Set in an elevated position with glorious views of the surrounding countryside, this traditional farmhouse is surrounded by lush green fields and offers peace and quiet, close to the beach.

This comfortable farmhouse is ideal for families, being perfectly located for exploring the wild and beautiful Caithness coast, with walking, cycling, golf and more on your doorstep. The fabulous expanse of sand at nearby Dunnet Bay offers opportunities for sandcastles and paddling as well as birdwatching and surfing. The glorious Castle of Mey offers a fascinating insight into what was once the home of the Queen Mother. Famously the most northerly village in the UK, John o’ Groats offers superb coastal walks and the chance to spot dolphins out at sea. From Scrabster you can take a ferry for the day over to Stromness on beautiful Orkney and have lunch in this historic town.

Enter the farmhouse and you will immediately feel welcomed by this home from home. The comfortable lounge with its open fire is a lovely room in which to relax and spend some family time together after a day out in the fresh air, and those of a musical inclination may enjoy a tinkle on the piano. The spacious and well-equipped kitchen with its warming Rayburn and central dining table conveniently leads directly from the lounge. The dual aspect windows provide plenty of natural light and offer lovely views of the fields and sea beyond, making it a delightful spot for a family meal. Also downstairs is a handy utility room, ideal for muddy or sandy footwear, and a simple twin bedroom. Heading upstairs you will find two bright and comfortable double bedrooms both with glorious views, and a bathroom with a shower over bath, hand basin and WC.

Outside at the rear of the property there is a lovely lawn that sweeps down towards fields of grazing cows. Wander outside with a drink and take in the beautiful views across farmland to the coast. At the front of the house is a large gravelled driveway with parking for two cars and a small area of lawn edged with mature borders.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Please note there is a refundable £150 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

Despite its remote location, you’re 4.5 miles from the harbour town of Thurso, the most northerly town in mainland Scotland. There is plenty to see and do here including a range of galleries, shops, cafes and restaurants as well as historic buildings.

You’ll no doubt want to visit John O-Groats (16 miles), so that you can say you’ve been to the most northerly point of mainland Britain. Whilst here, soak up the beautiful scenery, watch the wildlife and wander around the shops/eateries.

Wick (17 miles) is also worth a visit; it’s a former Viking settlement home to a castle known as the Old Man of Wick. There’s a lovely cliff-top walk to the castle from the tiny village of Staxigoe just north of Wick. For another trip around a castle and its grounds, head to Castle of Mey and Gardens (10 miles) - it was once property of the Queen Mother.

Dunnet Head, a 2-mile long white, sandy, arc-shaped beach is popular with surfers and wildlife enthusiasts alike and is also a great spot for a swim or a paddle. It has the largest colony of seabirds, including puffins – you can find more information about what you can see at the visitor centre.

Whilst you’re this far north, you may want to take the opportunity to visit The Flow Country, one of Europe’s last wildernesses, which is home to an abundance of rare flora and fauna and stretches across Caithness and Sutherland.

Andrew Swanson owner was always available and ensured any questions were answered. It was also good to see him working on the farm and he always made a point of chatting and asking if all was ok. The welcome pack was a nice touch and we were given a free bag of logs for the fire during the week on one of the coldest days We loved the location, the Read moreviews and being close to Thurso was also beneficial to buy groceries, go shopping or go for meals.
