You can get to Arran via a ferry (taking just under an hour) from Ardrossan Harbour to Brodick. Once there, you’ll find there is lots to see and do. Arran is well-known for its local produce from cheese to oatcakes to ice cream, so be sure to sample some of these delights. There is also Arran Distillery (26 miles) with its visitor centre and shop where you can enjoy a wee dram, or the new Lagg Distillery only 1.5 miles away. Lagg also has a cafe and pub.

For those wanting to get out and enjoy the varied scenery, Arran’s largest mountain is Goatfell (15 miles) and there are some spectacular views on the ascent and at the summit. Glen Rosa (15 miles) is also stunning where you can visit the ‘blue pool’ for a quick dip.

For coastal walks, head to one of the many pristine beaches on the island. Kildonan Beach is one of the most beautiful and it boasts incredible views across Pladda to the mainland; you may even be joined by some seals. Brodick Bay (16 miles) is also attractive and has many activities on offer. The town itself has a range of shops and eateries. Whilst here, you can also visit the National Trust Scotland’s Brodick Castle and wander around the building and gardens with its waterfall and woodland. For history, you could visit Arran’s Heritage Museum near Brodick to learn about the island’s past.

Lovely cottage which was a great base for exploring the island. Situated in a very quiet area away from the busier parts of Arran we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this super dog friendly, quirky cottage. The owners were very helpful with tips on exploring the area and the welcome folder provided a handy printout of all the places available for fooRead mored during the current restaurant closures. Lots of windows offering different views, including the playful pigs out the back! Would stay again Hide

The owners of the cottage were outstanding hosts. They are enthusiastic about the island and were informative of places we could walk that are off the usual tourist routes. Though their property is adjoining the holiday cottage, they give you complete privacy but at the same time, they enquire of your comfort and any additional requirements. The owRead moreners certainly conformed to the highest degree with the Covid - 19 regulations. A fabulous retreat and ideally located. Hide

The proximity to the kennels isn't too obvious in the property description. They are right outside the property so if you are ok with dogs barking a lot then fine, but if you are not, the location is really good midway between Lamlash and Blackwaterfoot. Very quiet dogs apart. The host is very friendly and helpful. Nice welcome pack of groceries waRead mores thoughtful. Hide

This was the most relaxing break we have had together in 32 years, in a peaceful and delightful environment exploring a wide range of activities the island has to offer. We felt as though we had known our hosts for many years, they were fabulous hosts.
