Modern cottage located in rural Argyll, perfectly situated for an evening's relaxation for your small group of two or three after a day of forest walks, fishing or mountain biking.

The rural location of this newly built property offers plenty to see in this spectacular Scottish area. Take the steep path from the rear of the property to a small local loch, originally the site of a 19th-century slate quarry and well worth a visit. Head 3 miles up to the historic Iron Age Dunadd Fort or travel a little bit further afield to the fascinating Nether Largie Standing Stones (7 miles). A unique day out can be had at Bellanoch, 4 miles towards the coast. Here you'll find a bustling marina and a Scottish beaver and wildlife centre to visit. Continue this way up to Crinan (5 miles), where you'll find a small sandy beach.

Sitting adjacent to the owner's holiday home, enter this single-level cottage and immediately come across a spot to hang coats and store muddy boots. The heart of the house is a contemporary yet cosy open-plan living space. Settle into a sofa in the lounge area, with the stylish wood burner flickering away before you. Pop something on the TV or get comfy with a good book. The kitchen can be found up three steps from the open-plan dining area, and is equipped with electric oven, fridge/freezer, microwave, washing machine and tumble dryer. The bedroom can be found just off the kitchen and is a spacious twin. A fold-down trundle bed is perfect for a child. The bathroom is a large wet room with waterfall shower and WC.

Access the private patio area via the door in the lounge and sit down at the outdoor dining table to enjoy a bite to eat together. Private parking is available to the front of the property.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Please note there is a refundable £150 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

  • This property is adjacent to property CA113 which sleeps up to 4 guests

There are numerous fantastic walks right from the front door, up hills and through forests. The steep hill from the cottage leads directly down to a peaceful loch. The path to the Cairnbaan Hotel also takes you to the Crinan Canal, around 1 mile on foot or 1.5 miles by car. There, you can enjoy canalside walks and bike rides, take a boat ride or visit the sandy Crinan Ferry Beach, which is around 5 miles by car from the property. It's a wonderful place for nature spotting, with red deer, otters, seals and owls often seen.

The harbourside town of Crinan is 6 miles away at the end of the canal. It has a very pretty natural harbour and lighthouse and a choice of pubs and cafes, making it a great place to spend an afternoon. From the harbour, you can charter a boat for a day of fishing, island hopping or wildlife watching. You can also visit the Gulf of Corrievreckan, where there are whirlpools and standing waves, and eagles, whales and dolphins are often seen.

Lochgilphead, 3 miles away, has a good choice of shops and supermarkets, and is the ideal place to stock up on supplies for home-cooked meals.

Slate Cottage was a wonderful location for a relaxing holiday. The design of the building is both practical and comfortable with a boot room to ensure the outside stays outside and a wet room/ shower area. The location is far enough away from the town to feel peaceful, but only a short hop to the shops in Lochgilphead. The house is at the south endRead more of Kilmartin Glen which is a concentrated area of Neolithic sites with Iron Age forts, stone circles, burial cairns and 4500 year old carved rocks, all of which are easily accessible. Invarary and Oban are relatively close and offer indoor activities if the weather is bad. We were fortunate with the weather so most of our activities were outdoor, our dog thought he was in doggy heaven and our 10 year old developed an unexpected interest in rambling. For the sake of balance, while we didn't experience any challenges which couldn't be overcome, a few of the bulbs were gone, specifically the oven, and the external lights which did cause us some inconvenience late at night. Also, we could have done with more pots, pans and kitchen utensils. I suspect this is down to normal wear and tear and didn't detract from our enjoyment significantly, Hide

If you want to escape the conveyor belt of modern life, this is a great place to do it. The cottage is remote enough to give you that escapism, but near enough to local communities to provide the necessities and comforts. The area is beautiful, and quiet. The cottage is solidly built, well-equipped, and modern with a traditional twist. It will encoRead moreurage you to relax and switch off, for sure! Don't expect any niceties when you arrive; as others have commented, there's very little in the way of information or instructions - you just have to figure it out. We arrived on a cold, wet autumn day and had to go straight out again for firewood, firelighters etc, then come back and clean the woodstove out, as it was left from the last people who used it. With no internet signal here, and no wifi in the cottage, this place provides you with a total break from communications with the outside world, which we found very, very beneficial and relaxing!
