Country cottage sleeping four guests, with a spacious enclosed garden overlooking the surrounding countryside with access to the River Stour, and just a short walk from Durweston village centre.

A narrow country lane leads to this idyllic cottage, giving guests a taste of the quiet, countryside surroundings that this property enjoys. As would be expected for a rural property, there are plenty of enjoyable walks to be had close by, and guests might enjoy a pleasurable stroll along the River Stour, or perhaps the circular walk around the Iron Age ramparts of the hillfort at nearby Hod Hill. Three miles south of the property, the Georgian town of Blandford Forum is a pleasant market town which not only still has a weekly market, but also maintains a range of traditional shops including a great butcher and a bakery, and even boasts its own brewery which has its own shop and is open for tours.

This single-storey cottage makes a lovely place for a quiet stay in a pretty rural location. On arrival, guests may like to make themselves comfortable in the lounge/diner where there is a warming wood burner, a TV/DVD, iPod dock, patio doors, and a selection of books for guests to enjoy. The galley-style kitchen is located just off the lounge/diner and offers an oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, and coffee machine. The property has two bedrooms, the first of which is a king-size room with views overlooking the garden. The second bedroom, meanwhile, is a pleasant twin room, with 2’6” beds which can be made up as a double room on request at the time of booking. The shower room has a shower and WC.

Outside, there is a delightful covered seating area to the rear of the property, which is accessed through the patio doors in the lounge. There is garden furniture here as well as a BBQ, making it a great space for alfresco drinks or meals. Beyond this area is a spacious enclosed lawn which is great for relaxing and playing. There are also a good range of leisure facilities available to guests which include a games room with table football, an outdoor table tennis table, boules, and croquet. The owner of the property has a private stretch of the River Stour which guests can use to launch canoes if they have, and can also be used for fishing by arrangement with the owner. There are four mountain bikes available for hire, which is particularly handy if guests are unable to bring their own. A fantastic and unusual addition to the property is the shepherds’ hut which is located in a nearby paddock and offers a fun overnight glamping experience with its double bed, wood burner, separate kitchen hut, firepit, and compost WC. This can all be experienced at an additional cost of £50 per night or £250 per week and needs to be booked directly with the owner. There is ample parking available.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

The cottage is beautifully decorated and very cosy. The food and drink that greeted us in the kitchen was a lovely touch. The garden games were an added bonus too. The two ponies at the end of the garden were friendly. My daughter was delighted when they came over to say hello.

It was the most delightful cottage with an equally lovely setting. The welcome pack was very generous - the fruit in particular lasted most of the week. The kitchen was very well appointed the beds comfortable and the covered corner of thr garden pleasant to relax in.

The welcome pack, the cottage and the location are glorious. The cottage is warm and the beds are really comfortable. So many holiday cottages these days have beds that are rock hard but not these. The garden is completely dog friendly and private.
