Leyburn is also home to the famous Tennants auction house. Other local towns and villages include Richmond (10.5 miles) and Middleham (3 miles) where you will find the ruins of Richard III's castle. Attractions include The Forbidden Corner (5.5 miles), Aysgarth Falls (8.5 miles) and Bolton Castle (7.5 miles). The cottage is perfect for walkers and cyclists exploring the Yorkshire Dales and the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (both 5 miles), or you could enjoy a day at the races in Ripon (19 miles).

Stepping inside this lovely cottage, with its handsome double frontage, a charming entrance hall with a flagstone floor leads you through to the cosy and welcoming lounge. This light and spacious room is a perfect space for you to relax in, with exposed beams, comfortable seating, a cosy wood burner and TV. A selection of jigsaws, board games and a Wii console are also provided. Exploring further, the bright and attractively designed kitchen/diner features a lovely dining area and is fully equipped with an oven, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave and washing machine. The bathroom is on the ground floor and features a shower over the bath and a WC. Going upstairs you will find the two cosy bedrooms. There's a beautiful master bedroom with a double bed and views across the village. The twin room features two single beds and large walk-in wardrobes.

The cottage is set in a sleepy little village in Wensleydale, just outside the market town of Leyburn. Its central location makes it the perfect base from which to explore this area of the Dales. The village itself has a local pub and a secret waterfall to discover under half a mile from the cottage.

Nearby you'll find the charming market town of Leyburn, which is within a 1-mile walk. Leyburn is an archetypical slice of Dales market town life. You'll find traditional shops, pubs and cafes all gathered around the handsome town square, which hosts a busy market every Friday. Leyburn is also home to Tennants, the biggest auction centre outside of London if you fancy picking up a bargain. The nearby historic town of Richmond (10 miles) is similar in many ways and has a lovely setting along the River Swale.

Middleham, one of Yorkshire's loveliest villages is just 3 miles away. Famous for its castle (once home to Richard III) it's also home to several racehorse trainers; you will see and hear the horses being led through the village up to the gallops every day. And to top it off there’s a lovely collection of pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops. Just 5 miles out of the village is the fantastic attraction The Forbidden Corner. Regularly voted the best family attraction in Yorkshire, it's also well worth a look even if there are no children in your party.

If walking is your thing, the Yorkshire Dales are something of a walker's paradise. And there are plenty of options for cycling too in this Tour De France country. You can strike out literally from the doorstep and there are several walking guides available in the cottage for you to use.

There are lots of other pretty villages and stunning natural sights all within close range of Tannery Cottage. Aysgarth Falls and Bolton Castle are just a few miles away and the gorgeous villages of West Burton (8 miles) and Askrigg (12 miles) are within easy driving distance, so there is lots of choice for things to do if you want to get out and about.

Beautiful setting and location. Spacious apart from the bathroom. A little overdone on the "stag" theme which is a shame as everything else is such a quality finish.

Im afraid we were disappointed with the cottage. When we arrived it smelled strongly of dogs and there were dog hairs on the mat and on the sofas. We knew it was a dog friendly cottage but have stayed in dog friendly cottages before and they have not smelled or had hairs on the furniture. The locatiRead moreon was disappointing basically in a cul de sac where you are overlooked in every room. Other residents complained about the parking outside de the cottage although it wasnt a big problem to park in the car park at the bottom of the road. However on a couple of evenings that was full so we had to parks elsewhere. The furnishings in the cottage were fine. It however a basic cottage in a disappointing location in the Dales.

Response from Pets at Home:

Hi Heather, Thank you for taking the time to complete a review, we do appreciate this. The sofa was professionally cleaned the day before your arrival and the rug is new, however your comments have been passed on to the owner. We do hope that you will visit Yorkshire again and if you would like to call and speak to one of the booking agents we can discuss your requirements in detail and find a perfect cottage and location for you.
