The Great Hay Barn at Cwmhir Court has been meticulously restored over recent years, using the best of local craftsmanship, the result is a stylish mix of country charm and modern making it a great holiday retreat.

Located approximately 1.3 miles from Hay on Wye which is just across the River Wye, walk or cycle across for a great afternoon exploring the thirty plus bookshops and independent shops. Brecon, Crickhowell, Hereford and Abergavenny are all within easy reach. The Brecon Beacons National Park and the Black Mountains are in full view, for the active guests it’s a playground on the doorstep, with dramatic hills to climb, pony treks, canoes to hire, gorge walking and high ropes all available nearby. The River Usk runs through Crickhowell and perfect for fishing or venture a little further and see the stunning waterfalls in the National Park. Play facilities: table tennis.

Accommodates 12 people (or up to 32 people combined with other 2 properties on site). Snug: with TV and DVD, on a mezzanine level. Lounge/diner: with woodburner + lots of seating and dining space for large groups. Kitchen/diner: with electric oven and gas hob, microwave, American style fridge/freezer and dishwasher. Utility room: with washing machine. Outside: garden with terrace, outdoor furniture and BBQ. Amenities: ample parking. Bed linen, towels, electric, central heating and Wi-Fi included. SLEEPING 8 - 12: Six individually designed bedrooms and four luxury bathrooms. Including a fantastic four poster Master Bedroom with private bathroom. The other bedrooms comprise of four double/king-size bedrooms and one twin room. Each with lovely antique beds, beautiful bedlinen and soft, fluffy towels included. A hairdryer is available.

COOKING: Huge family kitchen, with a RangeMaster oven and large gas hob. Designed for entertaining, complete with American fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, food processor, scales, breakfast bar and large breakfast table. Perfect space for families, as well as for caterers to prepare food - please contact the owners after booking for their recommendations.

DINING: Three great spaces, grab a bite of toast at the simple breakfast bar, laze away lunchtime at the lovely old refectory table in kitchen, or celebrate in style in the main dining room, with seating for twenty guests.

RELAXING: Beautiful, oak beamed sitting room with wood burning stove and comfortable sofas. Separate galleried living area, perfect for watching television, or to use as a playroom for smaller children. Complete with holiday reads, 42 inch flat screen television, dvd and surround sound. There is wi-fi throughout.

BASICS: There is a decent laundry room, fully equipped with washing machine, drying facilities, sink and a loo. There is an iron and ironing board available.

OUTSIDE: Private lawns and terrace area with outside seating, barbeque available. Good parking facilities. Spectacular views across the Black Mountain range.

PETS: Up to 2 dogs welcome at The Great Hay Barn. Please simply ask us if you would like to bring more than two.

A quaint 1.5-mile walk over the River Wye will take you to the small town of Hay-on-Wye, which sits on the border of England and Wales. This picture-perfect market town is famed for its abundance of book shops, perfect for picking up a riveting novel and curling up in one of the lounge areas at home. The town boasts a handful of country pubs with the opportunity to enjoy some gastro cuisine, and it also has a tapas restaurant, perfect for a birthday or celebratory meal! Within 2 miles of the property, you'll soon find yourself on the outskirts of the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park, where walking and hiking routes will help you shake away the cobwebs of that last glass of wine from the evening before. For something a little bit more daring then head 5 miles out to a nearby outdoor adventure centre, which offers knuckle-biting activities including zip wiring, gorge walking and mountain biking. Put your friendships to the test with special hen party adventure packages, ideal for enjoying your last weekend of freedom with the girls.

Excellent for family entertaining and catching up. Genuinely plenty of room for 12 of us to socialise, drink and sleep. Plenty of parking. Appealed to a large age range. Table tennis and pool. Cosy and warm. Log burner was great. Suitable for dogs too.

Beautifully decorated and furnished, a big property with a homely feel. The log burner was amazing, gave off a lovely heat which was appreciated in the wet weather. The Great Hay Barn was a wonderful place for our whole family to gather and celebrate our eldest daughter's 21st birthday. Beautiful surroundings and a warm, comfortable, spacious property, just couldn't have been better!
