This Barn is everything we think a family holiday home should be; stylish, beautiful, comfortable and brimming with character. Once inside, your gaze is drawn up to the fully restored oak ceiling, the beams criss cross the full length of the barn and lend an atmosphere of warmth and cosiness.

There is lots to do in the area, from hiring bikes and cycling into Hay-on-Wye, or pedal further along the Subtrans routes, hiring canoes or even Vespas from the nearby River Cafe. The Black Mountains are in easy reach, as are the Brecon Beacons, with something available for every level of adventurer. The River Wye is at the bottom of the fields nearby, with canoeing hire in nearby Glasbury. Fishermen will enjoy the River Usk & River Wye for a casting day. Or check out the spectacular waterfalls in the National Park. There is the Cathedral town of Brecon 12 miles away, the City of Hereford with impressive Cathedral housing the ancient Mappa Mundi 20 miles.

SLEEPS 10: 5 bedrooms in total: A downstairs double bedroom and bathroom (perfect for older relatives). Upstairs there is one super king size bedroom, a king-size bedroom, a double bedroom, plus a twin room, plus a further 3 bathrooms. All with beautiful bed linen and towels provided. The owner is happy to allow an additional two guests to stay under the age of 5 years, on the camp beds.  Linen provided.

ENTERTAINING: Huge double-height sitting room and dining room (17m in length). The dining table is a one-off made from solid oak and can seat up to thirty people. The Sugar & Loaf Team can advise on caterers too, there are some fabulous ones in the area that can rustle up anything from food in the freezer, to a fully catered dinner party.

COOKING: Beautiful state of the art kitchen, with large range cooker, dishwasher, lots of pots, pans etc. Basic kitchen supplies and local welcome pack on arrival.

RELAXING: Two sitting areas, one designed for lazing by the tv and dvd, in earshot of the kitchen, so works well when wanting to watch someone else do the cooking! There is a large, relaxing area at the end of the barn with log burning stove (logs provided), two large sofas and a number of armchairs, seating 10+ with ease.

OUTSIDE: Private and pretty, large walled garden with views of the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons National Park. There is a barbeque and outdoor seating available.

Fantastic long weekend. Beautiful barn that was warm and cozy...perfect for relaxing with friends. Equipped with everything we needed. Will was so helpful and met us at the barn to go through everything. Great location, could have walked into Hay if wasnt so wet. Would definitely choose to stay here again

The Medieval Barn was the perfect place for our family gathering (ages 1-90 yrs). As well as being beautiful and full of character, it was also lovely and warm which had been an important criteria for my elderly mother. The gardens were really well tended and enclosed so safe for the little ones. Gorgeous house in a quiet location. The house itself is beautifully decorated, very clean and well equipped. The garden has a lovely fountain and was a joy to sit in on sunny days. Would highly recommend it for large families wanting to stay near Hay on Wye.
