This charming cottage has been thoughtfully refurbished to offer guests a comfortable retreat in a peaceful setting.

Lying on the eastern flank of Cartmel Fell, this property looks out to the rugged cliff of Whitbarrow Scar and its nature reserve. Set out on foot to explore the charming local area with its outlying villages, hamlets and popular inns. Nearby Simpson Ground Tarn, a reservoir set amongst small woodland, is only a mile and a half away and makes for an easy walk for a waterside picnic. A short car ride will bring you to iconic Lake Windermere and the River Leven, where you’ll find the villages of Newby Bridge, Lakeside, Finsthwaite and Backbarrow, offering a selection of cafes, galleries, shops and boat trips. Or travel west with a 20 minute drive to the Victorian seaside town of Grange-over-Sands and the historic village of Cartmel.

Step through the old oak front door into the welcoming sitting room. With exposed ceiling beams and a stone fireplace with roaring wood burner, this lovely room has been dressed with comfortable sofas, cosy soft furnishings. Continue through to the kitchen/dining room where a polished flagstone floor lies beneath a beamed ceiling and a large inglenook fireplace houses an Aga for preparing delicious meals. Once prepared, dine at the large oak table nearby before enjoying a competitive game of pool in the cellar beyond. A fine set of oak stairs lead up to the first floor where you will find an impressive king-size bedroom with four-poster bed and feature fireplace, a contemporary king-size bedroom, charming main bathroom with roll-top bath and useful dressing room with shower cubicle. A further flight of stairs leads up to the attic space where a double bedroom with pitched ceilings and en-suite WC sits on one side of a landing and a spacious den with sofas and large screen sits on the other, perfect for younger guests.

Outside, the garden is a charming mix of planting, patio and natural rock. A table and chairs offers al fresco dining while a chiminea is perfect for those chilly evenings.

A fantastic cottage in a remote location reached by narrow lane and steep drive but the benefit of this is total peace and quiet! Lots of beautiful walks from the doorstep in the less touristy part of the Lake District. Lots of good pubs a short drive away. A lovely old building converted well. Lots of low doorways and beams for the unwary, but to be expected. The loft bedroom gets a bit hot and stuffy in warm weather. Otherwise, great!

Had a lovely stay at the cottage. Very spacious and would thoroughly recommend. Would not hesitate to stay there again. Very rural but at same time everything in easy reach. Kids loved the pool table and games room in the attic.

Beautiful cottage but in a remote location so a car or long walks are necessary. Did long for a pub close by but a 5 min drive was not too bad. Very clean and nicely equipped. We also had beautiful weather during our stay. Only wish we could have stayed longer. Thoroughly recommend it.

Lovely, comfortable cottage in a beautiful secluded location but only 5 minutes drive from Grange where they have a selection of shops including an excellent butcher. Wonderful walking and good pubs. Kathryn, the housekeeper, was fantastic and went out of her way to help make our holiday perfect.

This cottage was well appointed and the caretaker was very helpful. It's worth noting that whilst dogs are welcome, they are not allowed upstairs.
