Lying on the far north-west coast of Scotland in the picturesque village of Shieldaig, you are surrounded by magnificent views over lochs and the vast, enigmatic mountains of Torridon beyond. Shieldaig really is a picture-postcard Scottish village, with its whitewashed cottage walls standing out against the wild and dramatic backdrop. Amenities in the village include a hotel that serves excellent food, a pub with a roof terrace, a shop and a café. Remote and rugged, the scenery here is unspoilt with some fantastic walks available to those who are looking for a challenge to 'Bag a Munro'.

South of Shieldaig is the remote peninsula of Applecross in Wester Ross which is certainly worth exploring. You can complete a circular tour by car around the peninsula, taking in some of the finest and most remote scenery there is in Scotland. This includes the Bealach na Ba (the Pass of the Cattle) that has sharp Alpine-like hairpin bends and incorporates one of the highest roads in the UK that climbs to 2,053 above sea level. Along this route, you will be able to visit the pretty little village of Applecross, steeped in history and thought to be one of the first areas people settled in Scotland.

Lovely Cottage in a perfect location. Kitchen is slightly lacking in work surfaces but well equipped. Shop has most things you need. Pub is friendly with a good restaurant.

The location is wonderful - but unfortunately the weather was very rainy in these days we were there!

The location and comfort of the cottage cannot be faulted. The views from the front door are ever changing and breathtaking. Sheildaig the village has limited facilities but what there is is top of the range. The food and service in the hotel and Nanny's cafe was brilliant . If you are a seafood and smoked salmon fan you will love it.

Lovely scenery, but beds need replacing. Quaint old cottage in the heart of a beautiful village.

Great location - get the right weather and you will never forget sitting over looking the sea. Shieldaig heavenly. Accommodation does the job commendably, but if you have a large party, the kitchen is limited.

Very comfortable cottage with fantastic views. Excellent pub down the road and local shop for supplies.
